Grand Theft Auto VI isn’t just a sequel. It is Rockstar’s first brand new GTA built fully for modern hardware. That alone means one simple thing: massive technological evolution. With GTA V releasing back in 2013, the jump to GTA VI represents more than a decade of engine upgrades, hardware advancements, and design improvements.
Rockstar has always pushed technical boundaries. From GTA IV’s physics to Red Dead Redemption 2’s realism, each release has raised the bar and made expectancies the highest they have ever been.
As we have already seen from GTA VI’s trailer, there is a lot more advanced realistic lighting and way more improved reflections on water and vehicles. Vice City’s glow has been enhanced to the maximum and there is also a lot more natural shadow transition. With all that said, we can say that the lighting system appears far more dynamic than GTA V, giving the world a believable atmosphere.
As we all know, Rockstar uses its proprietary RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine). GTA VI is expected to use the most advanced version ever created. Let’s get into what will likely improve:
Looking at Red Dead Redemption 2 as a benchmark, we can expect more detailed facial animations. The character movement will be more improved and more realistic. GTA 6 will have enhanced environmental physics. From looking at the trailer, it is already shown denser world population and crowds that feel more alive and reactive than anything seen in GTA V.
One of the biggest upgrades to GTA VI seems to be world density. From what we have seen already Rockstar is focusing on immersion rather than just map size. It is already shown on trailers and leaks that the beaches are packed with NPCs, traffic behaves more dynamically and wildlife is presented in surrounding area. Lastly but not from importance there are also social media style world events that are integrated into gameplay. This makes Vice City a living and a breathing city.
If Rockstar carries over improvements from Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA VI could feature more realistic walking and running animations and natural character reactions during conversations. More importantly GTA VI could feature better combat fluidity which is a must in today’s action games. Subtle animations make a world believable and Rockstar excels at that.
Artificial Intelligence is expected to be significantly upgraded. It has previously been shown more reactive police responses, NPCs interacting naturally with their surroundings and also crowds responding dynamically to chaos. If everything is improved properly, this could make Vice City truly feel alive.
Rockstar doesn’t just follow trends, it sets them. With modern hardware (PS% and Xbox Series X/S), GTA VI has faster loading times and larger streaming environments. This leaves GTA with higher texture resolution and greater performance stability. This isn’t just a graphical update. It’s a technical foundation built for the next decade.
While Rockstar hasn’t revealed every technical detail yet, the GTA trailer already shows a clear leap forward in lightning, animation, density and realism. If Rockstar delivers on what we have seen so far, GTA VI could once again redefine what open-world games look and feel like and as always be on top of the charts.
What do you guys think about this, will GTA VI be the best version of what GTA has been so far?
