GTA 6 is set in the fictional state of Leonida, Rockstar’s version of Florida. Its biggest city is Vice City, based on Miami. Rockstar has confirmed six regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.
In Leonida, a fictional US state modeled on Florida, at the present day. It’s the first time since 2002’s Vice City (and 2006’s Vice City Stories) that the series returns to Vice City, now much larger and set in the modern era.
| Region | What it is | Real-world inspiration |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | The neon-lit main city: beaches, nightlife, skyscrapers | Miami |
| Leonida Keys | A chain of islands, boats and smuggling history | Florida Keys |
| Grassrivers | Swamps and wetlands full of wildlife | The Everglades |
| Port Gellhorn | A fading coastal port town | Florida’s Gulf Coast / Panhandle |
| Ambrosia | An inland industrial town | Central Florida’s sugar-refinery towns |
| Mount Kalaga National Park | Forests, rivers and trails in the north | North Florida wilderness |
Real-world inspirations are our reading of Rockstar’s region descriptions and trailer footage.
Rockstar hasn’t published an official map size. Community estimates based on trailer footage suggest Leonida is significantly larger than GTA 5’s San Andreas. We’ll add verified numbers after launch.
